App Review: Trivie

Product: Trivie – Battle of Wits
iTunes Link: Trivie
Cost:  Free
Category:  Games
Platform: iOS
Device: iPhone
Rating: 5/5

Description:
Do you enjoy playing Trivia Pursuit?  Do you have thousands of useless facts in your head and need a way to release them before your head explodes?  Well if you answered yes to the prior questions and have friends or Facebook (or you are open to playing trivia games against random strangers) then we have an app for you!
Trivie allows you to challenge a friend (or stranger) to four rounds of trivia.  The first three rounds consist of five questions while the last round has only one final question.  The questions are in a form of multiple choices and the faster you answer the higher your score.
Pros:
We found the game addictive and fun.  The questions are from variety of subject matters such as film, geography, politics, history, art, music, etc. There is something for everyone and at times when we guessed it was still a fun challenge.
Cons:
If you play the game enough some of the questions will appear again, so be aware of that as you play hundreds of games at the same time you can become the master of all answers.
Bottom Line:
Get it!  If you enjoy trivia games then this will be right up your alley.

Description:
The Olympics are here!  There are 17 days of summer Olympics happening with 10,500 athletes participating in 304 events.  It will be nearly impossible to keep up with everything that is happening. This is where mobile apps will come in handy.
Reuters Olympics coverage App is a great tool. The pictures they provide from the games are fantastic, and really bring the action to your device.  We found the articles short on detail but, the medals ranking and count plus the amazing photos make this app a great choice.
Pros:
The beautiful pictures from the games bring a dimension of the games to you that would normally not be seen via NBC broadcasts.
Cons:
Navigation on this app is difficult and at times confusing; we also found the articles accompanying the pictures short on detail.
Bottom Line:
Get it!  The pictures from the Olympics and the information from the app make it a good choice.

App Review: Celebtwin: Celebrity Look Alike Lite

Product: Celebtwin: Celebrity Look Alike Lite
iTunes Link: Celebtwin
Cost:  Free
Category:  Lifestyle
Platform: iOS
Device: iPhone & iPad
Rating:1/5
Review:
Description:
Celebtwin App provides you with the most similar celebrity based on a photo you take of yourself using their app. The app begins by having you take a picture of yourself, using your facial characteristics it will find you the celebrity that looks “most” similar to you.
Pros:
This is one of those apps that can be fun at parties as you pass your phone out to various friends and have them take their photos to see who is similar to what celebrity.  If you have a friend that looks like Mickey Rouke but are too afraid to say it; this app is for you!
Cons:
During our test time, the app crashed numerous times.  The app can be fun at parties however with the stability issue it will be more frustrating than entertaining.
Bottom Line:
Skip it!  The app crashes numerous times and there is no reason to have it take space on your iPhone!

App Review: Podcasts App

Product: Podcasts App

iTunes Link: Podcasts App

Cost:  Free

Category:  Entertainment

Platform: iOS

Device: iPhone / iPad

Rating: 5/5

Review:

Description:

Podcasts App provides you with one place where you can explore and signup for Podcasts.  The podcasts are organized by category and similar to a radio you can use a tuner to go through the various categories.  Once you reach a category of interest the relevant podcasts are listed below.  Apple tried to provide a common place for all your podcasts to be stored and listened to, much like their newspaper stand.

Pros:

Having all the podcasts in one location makes it easier for users to go and listen, manage and explore new ones.

Cons:

When you “dial” to a category of choice sometimes the app is slow with the loading of the cover pictures. If the podcast does not have a cover picture you have to click on a second button (information button) to see the name of the podcast.

Bottom Line:

Get it!  If you like to listen to podcasts and like exploring new ones then this app is for you.

App Review: Minu Timer

Product: Minu Timer

iTunes Link: Minu Timer

Cost:  Free

Category:  Utilities

Platform: iOS

Device: iPhone/ iPad

Rating: 4/5

Review:

Description:

Minu Timer is a free timer/stop watch for your iPhone/iPad.  Yes, there are countless other timers available but what sets apart Minu is the design and look of it.  If you are a high connoisseur of all things design (which maybe one reason you have an iPhone) and only enjoy apps if they look great then this app is for you.

Pros:

A well designed timer/stop watch app.

Cons:

We wish the timer had some pre set settings; allowing for a quick timer based on your needs.

Bottom Line:

Get it!  If you are in need of a timer/stop watch then this would be a good option.
